Transport - Hospital Hopper
The Hospital Hopper is a direct community bus service linking Harwich to the Colchester hospital sites for patients and hospital visitors. The HH1 service operates twice daily Monday to Friday (not Bank Holidays). The Hospital Hopper buses have tail lifts for passengers who have difficulty accessing the steps and our drivers are trained to assist passengers if they so require.
This service is a local initiative funded by Harwich and District Fellowship for the Sick and operated by Harwich Connexions. The weekday timetable for the Hospital Hopper bus service includes the main Colchester health site including General Hospital, The Oaks Hospital, the Primary Care Centre and St Helena Hospice.
Note: This is a scheduled service that operates to a fixed timetable between Harwich and Colchester authorised by the Department for Transport. If there are no passengers booked the service will not run.
Passengers need to pre-book their seats before the day of travel. Phone us on 01255 552010.
Early booking is advised for this popular service. We will try to accommodate late bookings, but this is not always possible.
Your pick up point and time will be advised to you at the time of booking. We have to leave the Harwich area by the advertised departure times of 0900 and 1400. Pick ups will start half an hour earlier to ensure all passengers are onboard to ensure the bus can travel on schedule.
If you have any special requirements (wheelchair user, mobility issues etc) please advise us at the time of booking, so we can ensure your journey is as easy and pleasant as possible.
Please tell us if you travel with a wheelchair. The Hospital Hopper buses have tail lifts for passengers who have difficulty accessing the steps, and our drivers are trained to assist passengers if they so require.
This scheduled service is free with a concessionary bus pass. Please show your pass to the driver.
The full adult fare tariff is £8.00 single and £16.00 for a return journey
Children (5-16) travel at half price on this service.
The Hospital Hopper service is funded by a local charity, the Harwich and District Fellowship for the Sick. Donations are very gratefully received towards the funding of the service. Donations received on the Hopper buses go to the Fellowship of the Sick.
