Harwich Connexions Transport Cooperative Ltd is a not for profit company founded in 2003 and officialy launched by the then Secretary of State for Transport, Alistair Darling on March 28th 2003.
Following a bid to the Governments Market Town Initiative in 2001, the Harwich Connexions Market Town Partnership was formed and as a result of a town 'health check' it was identified that there was a need for a dedicated Community Transport in Harwich and its surrounding area.
During the above process Harwich Town Council received a letter from Essex County Council inviting Parish and Town Councils to participate in the latest Rural Bus Challenge round. Together with the County Council, the partnership despatched a £294,000 funding bid to the Department for Transport. This bid was succesful, and the Community Bus Cooperative project was born.
The Community Transport has grown to accommodate the needs of the community and we are now operating 5 mini buses, 1 nine seat people carrier and 1 small van.
All the mini buses are fully accessible for passengers with special transport needs.
The company now also operates the 1912 Centre and the Enterprise Centre.
